Agapito Colonna (* in Rome ; † October 3, 1380 ibid) was a bishop and cardinal of the Roman Church from the Colonna family .

Church career

Born as the son of Pietro Colonna called Sciaretto, Agapito Colonna worked as a soldier in his youth and then switched to the church career. He was ordained subdiaconate , obtained a licentiate in canon law , became papal chaplain and archdeacon in Bologna . Elected Bishop of Ascoli Piceno on July 21, 1363 , he moved to the Episcopal See of Brescia on October 22, 1369 . Active as an Apostolic Legate in Germany and then in Portugal and Castile, he became Bishop of Lisbon on August 11, 1371 . After he met Pope Gregory XI. from Avignon to Rome, he was one of the supporters of Pope Urban VI. who created him cardinal priest of Santa Prisca on September 18, 1378 . In the same consistory , his brother Stefano († 1378 or 1379) was raised to cardinal deacon .

Both later found their grave in the family vault in the Bethlehem crypt under the main altar of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.
