Stefano Colonna

Stefano Colonna (* first quarter of the 14th century in Rome ; † 1378 or 1379 there) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was a son of Pietro Colonna, called Sciarretta, the brother of Cardinal Agapito Colonna and came from the extensive Roman noble family of Colonna . He was also called Stefanello by his contemporaries .

At first Stefano Colonna was governor of the Marca Anconitana ( Mark Ancona ). He was a legate of Pope Gregory XI. in the Republic of Genoa to restore peace between the Doge of Genoa and the King of Cyprus . Stefano Colonna became Apostolic Protonotary and Provost of Saint-Omer in the Diocese of Thérouanne .

Pope Urban VI. created Stefano Colonna in the consistory of September 18, 1378 as cardinal deacon , Stefano died shortly afterwards in Rome without having received a title deaconry . He was buried in the family vault in the Bethlehem crypt under the main altar of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore .
