Agaton Sax

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Agaton Sax is the main character in the youth book series Master Detective Agaton Sax by the Swedish writer Nils-Olof Franzén . One book in the series, Das Festbankett , served as a template in 1976 for the Swedish cartoon private detective Agaton Sax , which was also shown on German television in 1979.

Main character

Agaton Sax is plump and brisk, but a genius when it comes to criminology . His ideas are bizarre and always give the slightly parodic spelling a surprising twist. The style is very graphic and written with many verbatim speeches, whereby place names - except for those within England - do not actually exist, but rather remind of similar-sounding names ("Brosnien-Merzegowina"). In the stories, Agaton works as editor-in-chief of a small daily newspaper in Byköping in southern Sweden and works “on the side” as a detective .

Agaton Sax has mastered various self-defense techniques (including underwater judo ), is a consummate ventriloquist, ingenious inventor and master of disguise. He speaks many foreign languages, including "Brosnian" (a corruption of Bosnian ) and the largely forgotten "Grail" (another corruption, in this case Gaelic ).
