The Agawam Diner is a diner built in 1954 in Rowley , Massachusetts . Located at the intersection of US Highway 1 and Route 133 , it was listed on September 22, 1999 as part of the Multiple Property Submission Diners of Massachusetts MPS as a listed building on the National Register of Historic Places . The diner has been owned by the Galanis family since it was founded and is run as a family business.

history

The Galanis family opened the first Agawam Diner in Ipswich in 1940 . Due to their increasing success, they bought a second diner in 1947 and the Rowley location was opened. The first two dinners were from the Worcester Lunch Car Company . In 1954 the family bought two diners from the Fodero Dining Car Company , one of which opened in Peabody , also on US Highway 1. The other replaced the old diner in Rowley and has been on the corner of US Highway 1 / Route 133 ever since. In the 1960s and 1970s, the Ipswich and Peabody locations were sold, only the Agawam Diner in Rowley remained.

Others

The name Agawam refers to the Agawam people , a former indigenous people in New England .

In the episode Best Diners of the 2nd season of the series Top 5 Restaurants , the American television broadcaster Food Network chose the "Top 5 Diner Dishes in America". The Agawam Diner's “Chicken Pot Pie” took second place.
