Agios Eustathios, Kolossi

Agios Eustathios (St. Eustachius ) is a church building of the Cypriot Orthodox Church on Cyprus in Kolossi ( Limassol district ) right next to the Johanniterburg of the same name .

description

Agios Eustathios was built in the 12th century as a cross-domed church with an extended western arm without a narthex. Immediately south of it, the Johanniter - Kolossi Castle was built from 1210 , which was temporarily owned by the Knights Templar in the 14th century . Probably Agios Eustathios originally did not have the function of a castle chapel , but it was later expanded under the Franconian lords of the castle. The coat of arms of Louis de Magnac was above the arch to the apse. In the middle of the 15th century, side aisles were added at the same height to the west arm. In addition, the church was decorated with frescoes during the 15th century, some of which have been preserved. Below is a Christ as Pantocrator in the dome.
