Agios Nikolaos Foundoukli ( Greek Άγιος Νικόλαος Φουντουκλί ) is a Byzantine chapel from the 15th century on the Greek island of Rhodes .

It is located on the road between Eloussa and the third highest peak on the island, Profitis Ilias , about four kilometers outside of Eloussa on the left. According to legend, a high official had the chapel built as a four-cone building after his three children died of an epidemic.

The well-preserved frescoes show, among other things, these children with their parents, and childlike motifs such as a frog or cats are depicted on them. The alabaster windows in the tambour of the dome are also worth seeing . At the beginning of the 20th century the church threatened to collapse. It was then supported by the Italians, the occupying power at the time, and the dome was rebuilt. The dome itself therefore no longer contains any frescoes.

Next to the chapel there was probably a small monastery complex that is no longer inhabited and therefore derelict. Fig trees surround this place at the foot of the Profitis Ilias, from which you have a good view of the island. This is also used by the local fire brigade , who regularly set up guards there so that forest fires can be detected early. A fountain on the other side of the street invites you to cool off.
