The outstanding features of agricultural social law are the compulsory insurance for the self-employed, the granting of operational aid in the event of illness and the regulatory / agricultural policy performance requirements for old-age security (farm tax).

The Farmers' Social Insurance Institution (SVB) provides both farm health insurance and accident and pension insurance. The basis is the Farmer Social Insurance Act (BSVG). The SVB consists of a main office and eight regional offices.

In Austria, benefits law for agricultural social security has largely been adapted to general social insurance. In 1993, the farm tax was also abolished as a regulatory / agricultural policy condition for a pension.
