Agricultural textile
All textile products that are used in agriculture and horticulture are referred to as agricultural textiles . They therefore represent a special form of technical textiles . These are woven fabrics as well as nonwovens or felts . Examples are mulch mats and discs, growing fleeces and growing media.
Natural fibers are used primarily in those areas in which the function of agricultural textiles is only to be guaranteed for a limited period of time . Compared to synthetic fabrics, these have the advantage that they are naturally broken down and therefore do not leave any residues behind. Due to their properties and the low price, mainly coconut and jute fibers are used. Coconut fibers have a very high lignin content of 40 to 50%, which means that they rot only slowly and guarantee their function as an agricultural textile longer than other fibers. Hemp fibers are also used, above all, as cultivation fleece for cress .
