Agua Marina

Agua Marina (dt. Sea water ) is a Peruvian music group from Sechura ( Piura ) that makes Cumbia Andina or Chicha .

History of "Agua Marina"

"Agua Marina" began in 1975 when members of the Quiroga Querevalú family, which has always been very musical, began to found a music group. The Quiroga Querevalú family was traditionally a fishing family, but when the music group was founded, it was decided together to sell the two family-owned fishing boats in order to buy music systems and instruments with the money.

On August 30, 1976, the group had their first major concert in Sechura.

The founding members of Agua Marina were

  • José Quiroga Querevalú (vocals, electric bass)
  • Manuel Quiroga Querevalú (guitar)
  • Eduardo Zapata (guitar and backing vocals)
  • Alberto Paiva (vocals)
  • Moisés Bustamante (vocals)
  • Tomas Chapa (Timbales)

The first big hits were "Cumbia y Yo" (Eng. Cumbia and I ) and "Sirena del Amor". Since then, Agua Marina's CDs have been on the list of the best-selling records in Peru almost without a break.
