Ahlrich Meyer

Ahlrich Meyer (* 1941 ) is a German political scientist and historian.

Life

Meyer was Hans Blumenberg's research assistant in Münster from 1968 to 1975 . His research interests initially focused on early socialism and the social history of the 19th century. His first published work was a detailed afterword to the republication of Max Stirner's book The One and His Own (1845). This is also his most widespread text, because the book has seen numerous reprints from 1972 until today. Meyer, however, lamented this “success story” of the book in an additional comment that was printed in every subsequent edition from 1981 because this success shows that the “intellectual misery of its [the book's] origin” has still not been recognized.

Meyer has been working on National Socialism and the persecution of Jews in the countries occupied by Germany during the Second World War since the 1990s .

Meyer had held a professorship for political theories and the history of political ideas at the University of Oldenburg since 1975 and took early retirement in 2000.
