Ahmadpur East (Urdu: احمدپور شرقیہ) is a town in District Bahawalpur province of Punjab in Pakistan . The city of Ahmedpur East is not only a tourist destination for locals, but also an important hotspot for historians and archaeologists due to its rich heritage. The city contains the Sadiq Garh Palace , which was built in 1302, and many ancient buildings. The Derawar Fort is also located at Ahmadpur East. The city is known for its cotton, silk, embroidery, carpets, and pottery.
history
On June 25, 2017, a tanker truck exploded near Ahmedpur East. 219 people were killed and at least 34 others injured in the event. The truck overturned when the driver tried to make a sharp turn on the N-5 National Highway. When news of the accident spread in the surrounding villages, hundreds of residents rushed to the scene to loot the truck and its cargo. The truck then exploded. Reports suggested the explosion was caused by a person lighting a cigarette.
