Ahmad Harun

Ahmad Muhammad Harun ( Arabic أحمد محمد هارون, DMG Aḥmad Muḥammad Hārūn ) ( Ahmad Harun for short ) was Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan from 2005-2009 , from 2009 he was governor of the state of Janub Kurdufan , from 2013 to February 2019 governor of Shamal Kurdufan .

He belongs to the Bargo tribe from West Darfur, is a trained lawyer and is a member of the National Congress Party (NCP).

He has been wanted by the International Court of Justice in The Hague since February 27, 2007 for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Darfur conflict between August 2003 and March 2004 . During this period he was Sudanese Minister of the Interior. As chairman of the Darfur Security Desk, he is credited with recruiting, funding and arming the Janjawid militias, responsible for most of the crimes in the Darfur conflict.

In March 2019, Harun was appointed chairman of the NCP. In the wake of the April 2019 coup , he was arrested for corruption and the death of demonstrators.
