Ahmed Mithat

Ahmed Midhat (* 1844 in Istanbul ; † December 28, 1912 ibid) was an Ottoman journalist, author, translator and publisher of the Tanzimatzzeit . He is listed in literature with his title as Ahmed Midhat Efendi , to distinguish him from the politician Ahmed Midhat Pasha, who was living at the same time . Ahmed Efendi got his second name, Midhat, from Ahmed Midhat Pasha while serving as a civil servant and newspaper editor in Midhat Pasha's Vilayet Tuna .

Ahmed Mithat Efendi positioned himself more conservatively than the liberal authors around Namık Kemal . He was a prolific writer; over 250 works have come down to us, most of which he published himself. From 1878 he published the newspaper Tercüman-i Hakikat (German: translator of truth ).

He was also the patron and teacher of Fatma Aliye , one of the most famous Ottoman authors.
