Ahudemmeh

Ahudemmeh ( Syrian ܐܚܘܗܕܐܡܗ or ܐܚܘܕܐܡܗ; Arabic احودامه; * 6th century ; † in August 575 ) was Maphrian (Metropolitan) of Tikrit of the Syrian Orthodox Church from 559 until his execution .

He proselytized with the Arabs. After baptizing a son of the Sasanid king Chosrau I , he was persecuted by this ruler and was martyred in 575 . He is venerated as a martyr by Iraqi Christians, his life and work have been described in a hagiography . Several churches and monasteries of the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch are named after Ahudemmeh , including the Mar Ahudemmeh Church in Tikrit, which was destroyed by IS in 2014, and the Mar Ahudeni Church in Mosul .
