The Ahwahnee Hotel is a historically significant building in Yosemite National Park .
Located in Mariposa County and designed in the style of the National Park Service Rustic by Gilbert Stanley Underwood , the building opened as a hotel in July 1927 . It is built in a Y-shape and occupies an area of almost 14,000 square meters . The central building has a height of six floors.
On February 15, 1977, the Ahwahnee Hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places . On May 28, 1987, it was recognized as a National Historic Landmark . Since the Delaware North company claims the then hotel name as intellectual property , the National Park Service decided to change the name to Majestic Yosemite Hotel in early 2016 . After a settlement between the NPS and Delaware North, the renaming was reversed in 2019.
