The Aichi E11A ( Japanese 九八 式 水上 偵察機 , kyūhachi-shiki suijō teisatsuki , German "Type 98 reconnaissance floatplane ", allied code name "Laura") was a Japanese flying boat from 1937.
development
The E11A was mainly used as a night reconnaissance aircraft at the beginning of the Second World War . It was given the marine designation Type 98 and was very similar to its predecessor Type 96 , the E110A with the code name Hank . The E11A was used by cruisers or battleships for night reconnaissance. Later the machines were used for patrol, liaison and transport flights.
The E11A was a double-decker flying boat with a pusher propeller , which was powered by a 620 hp (455 kW) 12-cylinder V-engine Aichi 91 Type 22. It was crewed by three men. Only 17 machines of this type were built.
