The Aikido Federation Germany eV is a non-profit professional association for Aikidō in Germany based in Hamburg .

Sense and purpose

The Aikido Federation Germany was founded to promote the spread of Aikidō in Germany on the basis of the teachings of Aikido founder Morihei Ueshiba . Associated with this is the promotion of sport in the form of Aikido as a non-violent defense art, the promotion of international understanding, the reduction of violence and racism in society, as well as the improvement and maintenance of the health of Aikido practitioners.

These goals are to be achieved in particular through:

  • cooperation with other aikido associations at home and abroad,
  • the promotion and establishment of Aikido schools in Germany,
  • the development of aikido didactics,
  • the training and further education of aikido teachers,
  • the organization of internationally recognized Dan exams,
  • the organization of national and international courses.

Association history

The Aikido Federation Germany (AFD) was founded in 1999 and has been officially recognized as a professional association by the Aikikai Honbu Dōjō in Tokyo / Japan since May 1st, 2013 . At the moment there are around 800 members and 43 Aikido schools ( Dōjō ) spread over the whole of Germany in the AFD. (Status: 2016) Most of these are dojo of the students of Seishirō Endō (8th Dan) and Christian Tissier (8th Dan). There are also a number of dojo that cannot be clearly assigned to a Shihan .

The Shihan (Japanese: grandmaster) Endo and Tissier supported and advised the association in its establishment. They represent the association's connection to the Aikikai Hombu Dojo, the school of the founder Morihei Ueshiba, based in Tokyo, Japan.

exams

The graduation system of the Aikido Federation Germany is divided into Kyū- grade (Japanese Mudansha ) and Dan- grade (Japanese Yudansha ). The first graduation and thus the entry into the graduation system is the 5th Kyu. The individual Kyu degrees are not marked by colored belts. From the 2nd Kyu onwards, however, the Hakama (traditional Japanese trouser skirt) with a white belt may be worn.

The first dan entitles you to wear a black belt together with the hakama.

The kyu exams are taken by the respective teacher in their own dojo. A corresponding examination license is required for this. Dan exams from 1st to 4th Dan take place nationwide in front of a three-person examination jury as part of an examination course.

The examination authorization for Kyu or Dan exams is regulated by the examiner license regulations. The AFD examination regulations apply as the basis for both the Kyu and Dan exams.

All Dan graduations acquired within the AFD are automatically recognized by the Aikikai Tokyo.
