Aikwood Tower

Aikwood Tower , also Oakwood Tower , is a tower house near the Scottish town of Ettrickbridge in the Council Area Scottish Borders . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. A former classification as a Scheduled Monument was lifted in 1988.

Aikwood Tower stands on a knoll about three kilometers northeast of Ettrickbridge and four kilometers southwest of Selkirk near the right bank of Ettrick Water . The Tower House was built around 1600, possibly 1602. This date can be found in a lintel that is now installed on the second floor. The footprint of the three-story Peel Tower is 11.6 m × 7.2 m. Over the centuries, various openings have been driven into the stone masonry . The gables are made as a stepped gable . In the second half of the 20th century, Aikwood Tower was restored after a long period of vacancy or use as a warehouse.
