Ailsa McKay

Ailsa McKay (born May 25, 1963 - March 5, 2014 ) was a Scottish feminist economist and professor of economics at Glasgow Caledonian University . Her research focused on gender inequalities, the welfare state, and feminist economics . She was considered one of the leading British feminist economists, was a member of various expert commissions and was an advisor to the United Nations . Scottish Prime Minister Alex Salmond praised her "amazing contribution as a feminist economist."

Life

McKay received her PhD from the University of Nottingham and was a Reader in Gender and Economics until she was appointed Professor of Economics in 2011. She was also Vice Dean of the Glasgow School for Business and Society until 2013. She was a founding member of the Scottish Women's Budget Group. Since 2006 she has been a visiting professor in gender studies at the Complutense University of Madrid .
