Lufthansa AirPlus Servicekarten GmbH , based in Neu-Isenburg, is a provider of solutions for business travel management . The payment, billing and analysis of business trips and the administration of travel expenses are supported with various products. This includes, above all, the installation of a central billing account, the provision of credit cards for employees and the use of analysis tools. The sole shareholder is Deutsche Lufthansa to 100 percent.

Company history

The company follows the tradition of the Air Travel Card, which was introduced as early as 1936 for pilots and airline staff. The logo of this card is now part of the appearance of AirPlus cards. In 1986, eleven airlines founded AirPlus Limited Card Services, which continued the brand. From this connection, the Lufthansa AirPlus Servicekarten GmbH (AirPlus) was created in 1989.

In 1990 the AirPlus UATP card was used to settle airline tickets for business trips and in 1992 the AirPlus Eurocard was co-branded with Deutsche Bank and Dresdner Bank . A year later, the AirPlus VISA Card was co-branded with the Bayerische Landesbank. AirPlus thus became the first to issue a double card for frequent travelers.

AirPlus entered the VISA VU acquisition business in 1994. In addition, the Direct Marketing Logistics division was founded in the same year . In 1998 the Card Program Management division was founded with the task of developing and implementing concepts for customer card systems.

CommuniGate | CommuniGate Kommunikationsservice GmbH, founded by Lufthansa AirPlus as part of a joint venture with Bayern Card-Services, began its work in 1999. The main focus of CommuniGate's activities was the support of holders of the Lufthansa Card, which was introduced in January 1999.

In 2000 the brand name AirPlus International was introduced and in 2001 the eProcurement division (GSE) was spun off together with Deutsche Post eBusiness GmbH to form trimondo GmbH.

The AirPlus International AG , based in Zurich was founded of 2003. In the same year the airline partnership with the US carrier Continental Airlines was announced. In 2004 there was a cooperation with Dresdner Bank, then AirPlus took over the Corporate Card System of Dresdner Bank with around 18,000 lodged and corporate cards. A year later, cooperation with Avis Rent a Car and Europcar followed .

In 2007 a cooperation for payment solutions in business travel management in Asia took place with the Korea Exchange Bank and the United Overseas Bank and a payment solution for climate protection contributions was set up worldwide. A cooperation was established with Air China in 2008 and a subsidiary was founded in Shanghai at the same time.

In 2009 AirPlus won the EPCA Award for the AirPlus Meeting Solution and the Best Practice Award from the Travel Industry Club for the AirPlus climate protection solution .

In 2010 AirPlus introduced the AirPlus Green Reports. This means that companies receive reporting on CO 2 emissions from business air travel.

The expansion of customers in the Asia-Pacific region leads to the opening of a service hub in Singapore in 2011.

AirPlus repeatedly receives awards for its services and products. AirPlus is a service champion Awarded Office Star 2018. The credit cards from AirPlus consistently take first places in comparison rankings, such as in 2019 from Kreditreditcard.net.

Products

The AirPlus Company Account is a central billing account through which all travel expenses of a company can be billed in a generalized manner.

With AirPlus Virtual Cards, customers generate a Mastercard credit card number for each individual transaction.

With the AirPlus Corporate Cards , company employees receive a credit card (for example a Mastercard ) which can be used to settle travel services that are typical around the world.

The AirPlus Information Manager is an analysis tool for the travel expenses management of a company. All incoming data from the central billing accounts and company credit cards as well as other sources are recorded, evaluated and made available to the customer in a summarized form.
