The AirRobot AR 100-B is a micro reconnaissance drone from the German manufacturer AirRobot based in Arnsberg .

The AirRobot AR 100-B is a quadrocopter driven by electric motors with a diameter of one meter. The micro-drone can be equipped with different sensors as a payload.

The system is suitable for use in built-up or inaccessible terrain. His range of tasks includes both military and civilian tasks, for example in the police or fire department.

The drone can be operated and deployed from a ground segment by a single operator. The flight control takes place with the help of a PC or video glasses. The floating position can be held autonomously through GPS or optical fixation.

Sensors

Available sensors are:

  • a video color camera for daylight use
  • a black and white video camera with high sensitivity for missions at night or in low light conditions caused by infrared - LED is supported
  • a thermal imaging camera
  • a 10MP digital camera.

In the German Federal Armed Forces of AirRobot AR 100-B as well as the FANCOPTER the company EMT Penzberg as "Mikado ( Mik ro a ufklärungs d Rohne for the O denotes rtsbereich)". A total of 168 reconnaissance drones had been delivered by June 2014, of which 163 were in the Bundeswehr's “usable inventory” at that time. A total of five aircraft were lost by June 2014, two of which were destroyed in a crash and three were considered missing. In 2012 it was used 2436 times within Germany.

At the beginning of 2010, the drone was tested in the Australian outback to test its suitability for the desert, especially with regard to the current deployment scenarios of the German armed forces. A general readiness for action was determined. Mikado has been operationally deployed in Afghanistan and Kosovo (KFOR) since 2011 . From 2011 to June 2019, the Bundeswehr used the system for almost 4,380 flight hours.
