Air America is an American crime - Action - television series . It is not based on the 1990 film of the same name with Mel Gibson in the lead role. The main actor is Lorenzo Lamas . In North America, the series was distributed by syndication , while in Germany it was shown on Sat.1 .

Rio Arnett (Lorenzo Lamas) and Wiley Farrell ( Scott Plank ) work for Air America on the island of Costa Perdida. Mainly the two ex- Air Force pilots fly tourists from the USA to the island and back again. This tourist flight company is only a cover-up, because in reality both of them work for the CIA .

Her direct line manager is Jenner ( Arthur Roberts ) and her liaison on the island is Edward Ferman ( Gary Wood ). There is only one larger hotel on the island, the owner of the "Parador" is Alison Stratton ( Diana Barton ), who is often involuntarily involved in the cases of Air America.

In addition to their work as pilots for the airline, Rio and Wiley are busy with their work for the CIA. Often the victims or perpetrators are guests of the “Parador” and so the hotel is the scene of fights in almost every series, with their fists or even with weapons. The main task of the two is personal protection, investigations and finding fugitive offenders.

Wiley in particular often gets into trouble because he would like to earn more money and is a macho who likes to tear up women. Rio regularly saves him and later on in the series finds his father, whom he believed was dead.

Furman, the liaison man, has his own business that is not entirely legal and keeps getting in the way of Rio and Wiley. Allison is regularly upset about the disruption of her hotel business, but in reality she has grown fond of Wiley and fallen in love with Rio; he has the same feelings, but his work is too important to him to intensify the relationship.
