Air Force Cross (United Kingdom)
The Air Force Cross (AFC) is a military decoration part of the British religious system that to members of the British Armed Forces for "an act or several acts of bravery, heroism or THE SERVICE devotion during the flying, but not during active operations against the enemy “Is awarded. The award has also been given to officers from other Commonwealth of Nations countries in the past . Instead of another AFC a clasp (will bar ) awarded.
History and regalia
The award was donated on June 3, 1918 and originally awarded to career officers and warrant officers of the Royal Air Force (RAF). In the last months of the First World War , around 680 AFC were awarded.
During the Second World War , the award was also extended to aviation officers in the British Army and the Royal Navy . During the Second World War, 2,001 AFCs and 26 clasps were awarded in place of another AFC. After the Air Force Medal (AFM) was abolished in 1993, the award was also extended to other ranks . The AFC has been awarded 58 times to members of the Commonwealth in the past.
The carriers of the Air Force Cross use the suffix ( post-nominal ) AFC.
