Air guide

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An air guide is an air intake that is attached to a computer housing directly above the processor .

As a result, the cooler ambient air is sucked in directly and directed over the processor heat sink . The heated air is released into the interior of the housing and is to be extracted from there by a power supply fan or system fan.

So that the processor fan does not have to turn so fast (and is therefore quieter), some manufacturers provide the "Air Guide" with an additional fan.

The “Air Guide” was specified by Intel in May 2002 . It is a prerequisite for a "Thermally Advanced Chassis".

Other manufacturers have solved the heat problem in their own way: By not sucking in the air, but releasing it directly from the processor to the outside via a nozzle, they achieve better cooling with less noise.
