The Ajax Icefall is a glacier break on King George Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It lies between Stenhouse Bluff and Ullmann Spur at the head of the Visca Anchorage Bay .
The glacier break was mapped during the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908–1910) under the direction of Jean-Baptiste Charcot . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1960 after the HMS Ajax , a Royal Navy light cruiser that was involved in the search for the crew of the RRS Discovery II missing on King George Island in January 1937 .
