The Cracow School of Art (Polish: Akademia Sztuk Pięknych im. Jana Matejki w Krakowie ) is an art school founded in 1818 as a subdivision of the Jagiellonian University .

history

The college was founded in 1818 as a subdivision of the Jagiellonian University . At that time the name was School of Drawing and Painting ( Polish: Szkoła Rysunku i Malarstwa ). From 1873 the school acted as an independent institution under the direction of the Polish painter Jan Matejko , now under the name School of Fine Arts ( Szkoła Sztuk Pięknych ). In 1950, after the Second World War, there were initially two art schools in Krakow that later merged. In 1979 Jan Matejko became the school's patron.

The university building

The main building in the Kleparz district was built in the years 1879–1880 by the Polish architect Maciej Moraczewski.
