Academy of Arts in Sarajevo

The Academy of Arts in Sarajevo ( Bosnian : Akademija likovnih umjetnosti Sarajevo ) was founded as a higher education institution in 1972. It mainly takes on the training of artists and organizes courses for the training of teachers for elementary and secondary schools.

The academy was founded by scholars, professors and cultural workers. The founding members are Muhammad Karamehmedovic, art historian and first dean of the academy, Nada Pivac, painter, Mersad Berber, painter, Boro Aleksic, painter, Ali Kučukalić, sculptor, Zdenko Grgic, sculptor. The building on the south bank of the Miljacka was built in 1899 by the Czech architect Karel Pařík .

Each of these departments prepares students for a particular artistic activity in a way that meets the criteria of European art education. The training at the Academy of Arts in Sarajevo, also known as the Academy of Fine Arts, adapted its curriculum in the 2006/2007 winter semester to the Bologna training system .

The course is divided into a five-year Bachelor (four years) Master (one year) system and is completed with a diploma.
