Karel Pařík
Karel Pařík (born July 4, 1857 in Veliš near Jičín ; † June 16, 1942 in Sarajevo ) was a Czech architect who significantly shaped the cityscape of the Bosnian capital Sarajevo at the turn of the century and contributed to its urbanization .
Life
Karel Pařík studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Theophil Hansen and Friedrich von Schmidt . After the occupation of Bosnia by Austria-Hungary in 1878, there was a need for new, representative buildings there. Pařík was known as a connoisseur of historicist architecture and came to Sarajevo in 1884, where he realized numerous public and sacred buildings. In total, he erected around 150 buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina , 70 of them in the capital. He fought for the preservation of the old parts of the city and built the new buildings in free places. Pařík is responsible for the fact that the city, which was oriental up until then, got a distinctly European character.
