Akagera swamps

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Akagera swamps are an extensive swamp area in eastern Rwanda on the border with Tanzania . The marshland lies in the lowlands along the Akagera Nile and, in addition to the river, includes more than a dozen smaller and larger lakes. The area stretches from the Rusumo Falls in the south over a length of almost 150 kilometers to the border with Uganda in the north. Much of the swamp lies in Rwandan territory and forms an important part of the Akagera National Park's ecosystem . The smaller eastern part of the swamp is in the Kagera region of Tanzania.
