The Akan National Park ( Japanese 阿寒国 立 公園 , Akan Kokuritsu Kōen ) is a Japanese national park in Hokkaidō in Japan . The park was established on December 4, 1934. This makes it and the Daisetsuzan National Park the two oldest national parks in Hokkaidō. The park area is 904.81 km², the second largest on Hokkaidō. The park area is classified as a national park with IUCN protection category II. The Japanese Ministry of Environment is responsible for the administration.
