Akawaio is a Caribbean language and is spoken mainly in Guyana , preferably in the Upper Mazaruni region .
It is still spoken by a good 6,000 people today. Although many Akawaio-speaking people live outside the cities, there are a few Akawaio localities, notably Kamarang , Jawalla , Waramadong, and Kako . Akawaio is also found occasionally in Venezuela and Brazil (see Ingarikó ).
