Akerman Island is a small and low island in Prydz Bay on the Ingrid Christensen Coast of Princess Elisabeth Land in East Antarctica . It is located 3.5 km southwest of Cook Island in front of the Larsemann Hills .
The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named it in 1992 after Jonathan C. Akerman, director of Davis Station in 1990, who had led the construction of a 650 km long traverse to the Larseman Hills to complete a new and safe all year inland route.
