Akiko Sekiwa ( Japanese 関 和 章 子 , Sekiwa Akiko ; born April 6, 1978 in Tokoro , Hokkaidō as Akiko Katō ( 加藤 章 子 , Katō Akiko )) is a Japanese curler .

Career

Sekiwa had her international debut in 1994. At the Curling Pacific Championship in Christchurch , she won the gold medal as lead with her team. She was able to repeat this success in 1996, 1997 as third and 1998 as Skip.

Sekiwa was able to qualify five times for the Junior World Championship and won the silver medal twice.

At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , Sekiwa played for the first time for Olympic metal. The team reached fifth place on home soil. Sekiwa was also part of the Japanese curling Olympic team at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . This time the team finished eighth.
