The Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park ( Japanese 秋 吉 台 国 定 公園 , Akiyoshidai kokutei kōen ) is one of over 50 quasi-national parks in Japan. The prefecture of Yamaguchi is responsible for the management of the company founded on November 1, 1955 Parks. With the IUCN Category V, the park area is classified as a Protected Landscape / Protected Marine Area . The park includes part of the eponymous Akiyoshi Plateau ( 秋 吉 台 Akiyoshidai ), a karst landscape , and over 400 limestone caves, including Japan's largest limestone cave Akiyoshidō ( 秋芳 洞 ). The cave is 8,700 m deep, about 1 km of which is accessible to visitors. The mountain meadows on the plateau are burned down in a controlled manner every February to keep them short.
