Mohammad Akram Malakzay (* in Afghanistan ) is an Afghan doctor, translator and lexicographer.

Career

Akram Malakzay was born in Afghanistan as the son of the general manager, Salahuddin Sahak Malakzay. His grandfather was editor-in-chief of the then only government newspaper "da maschriqi Etehad د مشرقي اتحاد" in the eastern province of "Maschreqi مشرقي" from 1940 to 1950. Malakzay went to school in Kabul. First he attended the Mirwais elementary school in Kabul. Then he moved to the "Amani-Gymnasium اماني ليسه", which was then called "Nedjat-Lisa نجات ليسه". After graduating from high school, he worked for about a year as a translator and interpreter in the German development project “Paktia پكتيا” in “Khost خوست”.

In 1974 he came to Germany and attended the Goethe Institute in Munich, where he obtained a diploma as a German teacher. He then studied medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After the Soviet intervention in his homeland, a return seemed too dangerous. He worked again for about three years as a translator and interpreter at the Federal Office for the Recognition of Foreign Refugees and at German courts. During this time he wrote his doctoral thesis on traumatology of the urogenital tract at the Faculty of Forensic Medicine at the University of Munich. From 1989 he worked again as a doctor, initially as an assistant doctor in Rhineland-Palatinate, later he settled down as a general practitioner in a group practice in Rennerod . Since 1996 he has been working as a specialist in general medicine in Bebra-Weiterode .

In his spare time, over 20 years of work, he created the first German - Pashto dictionary with around 25,000 German headwords and around 45,000 examples and idioms. He was initially supported by the Iranist David Neil MacKenzie, who died in 2001. The work was published in 2009.

For this he received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany in October 2011 . In recognition of Malakzay's services, the Association for the Promotion of Afghan Culture e. V. Cologne held a cultural evening on March 21, 2010, in which the association's letter of honor was awarded to Malakzay.
