The Patient Safety Action Alliance (APS) was founded in April 2005 as a joint initiative by representatives of the health professions, their associations and patient organizations in order to set up a common platform to improve patient safety in Germany.

tasks

In multidisciplinary working groups, the association develops actions and campaigns to improve patient safety in Germany.

The results from the working groups are published as recommendations for action, which are available free of charge to all institutions in the German health care system . The working groups also organize specialist events and the mutual exchange of experts.

The association cooperates with associations, specialist societies, research institutes, health insurance companies, self-administration institutions and patient organizations. He is supported by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG).

chosen projects

  • The Clean Hands campaign is a joint campaign of the APS, the National Reference Center for the Surveillance of Nosocomial Infections and the Society for Quality Management in Health Care. The aim of the campaign is to promote hand hygiene in hospitals and thus significantly reduce the number of infections. All German hospitals can participate.
  • The Hospital CIRS Network Germany is a joint project of the Medical Center for Quality in Medicine (ÄZQ), the APS, the German Hospital Society (DKG) and the German Care Council (DPR), which enables all clinics to recover from the mistakes of others to learn. The KH- CIRS -Netz -D is designed to be interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary.
  • Action on Patient Safety High 5 : The High 5s project was initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2006 to take action on the globally relevant topic of patient safety. The name "High 5s" is derived from the original intention of the project, namely to reduce 5 serious patient safety problems in 5 countries over 5 years. The organization implementing the project in each country is known as the Lead Technical Agency (LTA). In Germany, the "LTA Germany" is an operational unit made up of the ÄZQ and the APS. The aim of the international project "Action on Patient Safety: High 5s" is the significant, sustainable and measurable reduction of adverse events in patient care through the implementation of standardized recommendations for action (SOP = Standard Operating Protocols) in hospitals. The implementation of the project in Germany is funded by the BMG.
