Active remote sensing systems
Active remote sensing systems (as opposed to passive remote sensing systems ) emit microwave or laser beams and receive their reflected components. This means that these systems are independent of solar lighting.
Examples of active systems are:
- Radar in the microwave range for recording the dielectric constant and surface roughness
- Laser altimeter in the optical wavelength range for the detection of terrain heights
