Acupuncture massage according to Penzel

Acupuncture massage according to Penzel ( APM ) is a treatment technique based on the Chinese Tuina in the broader sense , which, in contrast to acupuncture, works without needles and thus without damaging the skin, which means that non-medical practitioners, in particular physiotherapists and masseurs, use this technique in many countries / med. Is open to lifeguards , midwives , nurses and laypeople . Scientific proof of the effectiveness of the alternative medical treatment method has not yet been provided.

The APM works with external mechanical pressure, whereby the therapist strokes with a metal stick along the course of the scientifically undetectable so-called acupuncture meridians . As in acupressure , individual acupuncture points can also be stimulated directly.

This acupuncture massage was promoted from the 1950s by the masseur and bath attendant Willy Penzel (1918–1985). The spread of the method is based, among other things, on the fact that it forms an allegedly logical system for "Western-minded" therapists, which the theory of traditional Chinese medicine does not require. It is used in pain therapy, for functional disorders of the organs and for diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

The APM should also be able to be used on animals, whereby its protagonists attach particular practical importance to work on horses and dogs.

The International Association of Therapists for Acupuncture Massage by Penzel, founded in 1978 and based in Heyen near Bodenwerder , currently has around 4,000 members from 25 countries around the world, the majority of which come from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
