Akwidaa is a place in Ahanta West District , Ghana . It was founded as Fort Dorothea or Dorotheenschanze in 1684 east of Cape Three Points as a base for the Groß Friedrichsburg colony . Akwidaa means “old man” in Twi . This refers to a ferryman who carried people across the river in colonial times.

Today the place lives from fishing in particular.
