The Arabic-language magazine al-Jamia or al-Jamia ( Arabic الجامعة, DMG al-Ǧāmiʿa ; German  "the community" ) was founded in 1899 and published by Faraḥ Anṭūn (1874–1922), an Egyptian intellectual, initially in Alexandria. The editorial team moved to New York in 1906 and to Cairo in 1909. From 1899 to 1910 (1316 to 1328 hq ) a total of 77 issues appeared in seven volumes, with the first 12 issues being titled al-Ǧāmiʿa al-ʿuṯmānīya ( Arabic الجامعة العثمانية) and al-Ǧāmiʿa established itself from the 13th edition. Several editions were published as double issues or contain sequential supplements. Above all, articles on political, cultural and historical topics with an emphasis on upbringing and education as well as the family and the role of women were published.
