This technical committee has been organizing international matches since 1951 and has organized an annual league since 1951/52 in which the GDR championship was played. On April 20, 1958, the German Rugby Sports Association was founded in East Berlin. Among other things, he was a member of FIRA , the European rugby association. In 1971 800, 1984 1080 and 1988 1213 athletes were active in the DRSV. In 1988 these were looked after by 103 trainers. Presidents of the DRSV were Heinz Hofmann (1958–1961 and 1965–1968), Walter Herz (1961–1965), Gerhard Glienke (1968–1972), Gert Scharn (1972–1990) and Dieter Schmidt (1990). The German Rugby Sports Association dissolved on December 7, 1990 and the 17 clubs existing at that time joined the German Rugby Association .
