al-Ubur ( Arabic العبور, DMG al-ʿUbūr ), also Obour , is a city in the Nile Delta of Egypt within the governorate al-Qalyubiyya with approx. 133,000 inhabitants. The city is located about 35 kilometers from Cairo and is therefore experiencing above-average population growth. al-Ubur is one of 16 new urban areas in the greater Cairo area. It is also designated as an industrial area and is home to a number of factories as well as residential areas for the Egyptian middle class.
