Al-Walid ( Arabic الوليد, DMG al-Walīd ) is a city near the border between Iraq and Syria . It is located in the Iraqi province of al-Anbar , not far from the border crossing of the same name , on the highway from Damascus to Baghdad .
During the war in Iraq, al-Walid was captured by the terrorist militia “ Islamic State ” in May 2014 and has been held ever since.
