The synagogue in Geroda , a market in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen ( Bavaria ), was built in 1906/07. The secular synagogue with the address Kirchberg 5 is a protected architectural monument .

history

The synagogue was inaugurated on August 16, 1907. The Torah shrine came from the former synagogue in Werneck .

During the November pogrom in 1938 , SS men from Geroda broke into the synagogue and destroyed the interior. The Torah scrolls and rituals were burned in the garden.

The synagogue building was preserved and is now used as a Protestant parish hall. The overall impression of the building has been preserved despite some renovations.

Commemoration

There is a memorial plaque on the building with the inscription: “This building, built in 1907, the interior was destroyed in the night of the pogrom in 1938, and served as a synagogue for the Jewish community of Geroda. As a reminder and reminder ”.
