Alabama State Route 40 is a highway in the US state of Alabama that runs in an east-west direction.

The highway begins on Alabama State Route 35 south of Scottsboro and ends in Hammondville on Alabama State Route 117 . The State Route runs south of Scottsboro along the Lookout Mountains . About a mile past the east end, the AL 117 meets Interstate 59 .
