Alain Mikli SA is a French manufacturer of glasses based in Paris .

It was founded in 1978 by the French optician Alain Miklitarian. The company is based in Paris on Rue de Campo Formio. The collections from Mikli are among the luxury products in optics and have been provocative and trend-setting since the company was founded. The following two main lines are currently being sold:

  • Alain Mikli
  • Starck Eyes

There is a cooperation with the French object designer Philippe Starck . In contrast to licensed products, the products have both names. An earlier cooperation with the Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake for a collection of folding glasses of the same name is currently not being continued. Further collections were marketed under the name "mikli Studio", with the company also making their knowledge for production and sales available to young designers. This was about:

  • mikli (formerly also known as mikliparmikli)
  • Vanessa & Mehdi
  • Alyson Magee
  • Delfina Delettrez
  • Bless
  • Jean-Paul Gaultier by mikli

The company employs around 300 people worldwide and generates annual sales of around sixty million euros. The main sales markets are France (Vertriebsgesellschaft mdf (mikli diffusion france)), Japan (mikli kk) and the People's Republic of China as well as the United States (mikli ltd). mdf is responsible for sales throughout Europe except for the German-speaking countries Germany , Austria and Switzerland and Scandinavia . "Alain mikli schweiz AMS AG", based in Lupfig, is responsible for the former countries , while Scandinavia is looked after by "Noxe" in Stockholm .

Alain Mikli has also been running retail stores under his own name since 1987. In these boutiques, which are regular optics stores, and were designed and built by Philippe Starck, in addition to their own glasses, accessories and clothing as well as bags from the “alain mikli” brand were sold. Germany has had its own brand store on Königsallee in Düsseldorf since 2001. The Berlin store was sold to the managing director in 2011 and converted into a shop-in-shop.

On November 2, 2012, a contract was signed with the Italian eyewear manufacturer Luxottica , which provides for the acquisition of 100% of the shares in the alain mikli group. The company group was taken over by the Italian manufacturer in January 2013. The two luxury brands "alain mikli" and "starck eyes" become a separate business unit with a name with two other luxury brands of the Luxottica group "Oliver Peoples" and "Paul Smith" "Atelier" combined and run by Los Angeles and Paris (for Europe).
