alaska - Journal for Internationalism is the journal of the BUKO (Federal Coordination of Internationalism). It deals with socio-ecological, anti-racist, post-colonial and pop-cultural topics. The editorial team consists of five people and is based in Bremen. The magazine is a cooperation partner of the Internet portal Linksnet .

history

The magazine alaska was founded in 1977 together with the Federal Congress of Development Action Groups ( BUKO ) - at that time under the name of the Forum Development Action Groups . Initially, the “forum” was more of a loose-leaf collection, served for (internal) discussion and saw itself as the BUKO's press organ. The editorial team changed from one BUKO member group to another. Since the beginning of the 1990s there has been a permanent editorial team consisting of five editors, based in Bremen. The articles are still being written by different people and BUKO member groups. In 1997 the "Forum" was renamed alaska - Journal for Internationalism . This should make it clear that this is a separate project and that topics beyond the BUKO are also dealt with. Nevertheless, alaska is still considered a BUKO publication today.

Subject orientation

In the alaska socio-ecological , anti-racist , post-colonial and pop-cultural topics are dealt with, so that an arc should be drawn from internationalism to other topics. According to Kai Kaschinski - one of the editors - this is the special thing about the alaska, as well as the inclusion of questions about power relations and culture. The alaska advertises with the slogans “internationalist. feminist. Left. different."

content

Each issue consists of a debate focus, followed by articles on various other topics. There are also reports and dates from the BUKO in the booklet. Reviews, event information and notes complete the offer.

Appear

So far, alaska has been published six times a year, with a circulation of around 1000. The last issue on the subject of " Biopolitics " was published in 2005. Since then, no issue has been published for financial reasons. (The magazine has never been self-sustaining through subscriptions and sales).
