The Alberdingk Boley GmbH is a medium-sized family-owned company based in Krefeld - Uerdingen . The core business is the production and marketing of water-based polyurethane, plastic and adhesive dispersions for use in paints, architectural paints, plasters, wood coatings, anti-corrosion agents and adhesives. The environmentally friendly binders from Alberdingk Boley refine, connect, beautify and protect surfaces. Another mainstay consists of natural oils as renewable raw materials. Alberdingk Boley is the only European producer of castor oil, linseed oil and their derivatives. They are supplied to industry for further processing in printing inks, the cosmetics industry and in the pharmaceutical sector. With production facilities in China and the USA, Alberdingk Boley employs over 400 people worldwide. More than a quarter of the employees work in research and development.
history
The company was founded in St. Tönis by Franz Heinrich Boley in 1828 by setting up the first oil mills and establishing the TI Alberdingk Sons linseed oil factory in Leeuwarden ( Netherlands ) in 1879. The latter relocated to Uerdingen in 1886.
The FH Boley oil mill was built in Uerdingen in 1894. Both companies merged in 1921 to form Alberdingk-Firnis und Ölwerke AG. The German Rizinus-Oelfabrik Boley was founded in 1933. The United Uerdinger Oelwerke Alberdingk Boley AG finally came into being after the merger with the Emil Boley oil mill founded in 1905 in the Rheinhafen in Linner . In 1970 Alberdingk Boley GmbH started the production of plastic dispersions. Thai Castor Oil Ind. Co. Ltd. was founded in 1977 in Bangkok / Thailand. Another milestone was started for the company in 1985 with the production of water-based polyurethane dispersions.
In 1989, the two companies Vereinigte Uerdinger Oelwerke and Deutsche Rizinus-Oelfabrik Boley were finally converted into the unified corporation Alberdingk Boley GmbH. The production of adhesive dispersions started in 1998. Alberdingk Boley Inc., Greensboro, North Carolina, USA was founded in 2000. In 2005, 100% PU polyols were added to the portfolio. Alberdingk Resins Co., Ltd. Shenzhen, China. were founded in 2007. The establishment of Alberdingk Resins Co., Ltd. took place in 2007 in Shenzhen, China.
Awards
In 2015, the company was recognized as a TOP 100 medium-sized German company for its inventiveness. In 2016, Alberdingk Boley was one of over 150 training companies to receive the logo of the Best IHK training company in the Middle Lower Rhine region. In 2017 the company received the title of TOP JOB employer. The seal is awarded by an independent jury in cooperation with the University of St. Gallen and certifies attractive performance by employers.
