Albert Chamberland

Albert Chamberland (born October 12, 1886 in Québec , † April 4, 1975 ibid) was a Canadian violinist, conductor, music teacher and composer.

Life

Chamberland was a violin student of Jean Duquette and later at the McGill Conservatory of Alfred De Sève and made his debut as a violin soloist in 1904. He belonged to the Orchester symphonique de Montréal (OSM) founded by Joseph-Jean Goulet and was a member of the Beethoven Trio from 1907 to 1910 and then of the Dubois String Quartet until 1920 .

In the same year he was one of the founders of the Orchester philharmonique de Montréal , and until 1925 he directed the Chamberland String Quartet (with Norman Herschorn , Eugène Chartier and Raoul Duquette ). In 1932 he became a member of the Montreal Orchestra . When the fourth OSM was founded in 1934, he became its first violinist and in 1939 deputy orchestra conductor.

From 1937 to 1952 Chamberland was a music producer at the CBC . He also worked as a teacher at the Conservatoire national and at the Couvent Villa-Maria . His students included Alexander Brott , René Gagnier , Norman Herschorn, Lucien Martin and Claude Champagne .
