René Gagnier
René Gagnier (born May 30, 1892 in Montreal , † May 25, 1951 in Trois-Rivières ) was a Canadian composer, conductor, violinist and euphonium player .
Life
Gagnier had first lessons from his father Joseph Gagnier and then studied with Albert Chamberland , Saul Brant and Alfred De Sève . From 1918 to 1929 he was a conductor at Loew's Theater . In addition, he was u. a. Member of the Montreal Orchestra , the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Montreal Little Symphony Orchestra ; also euphonium player and conductor with the Canadian Grenadier Guards Band for twenty-five years . In 1936 and 1937 he was second violinist with the Dubois String Quartet .
In 1939 Gagnier moved to Trois-Rivières, where he headed the Union musicale for eleven years . He has taught at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec , at the Académie de Trois-Rivières and at the Séminaire de Nicolet . Gagnier composed marches and waltzes .
